One of the most popular crowd-pulling activities of the event this year will be our buffet of traditional African dishes; a first time thing for many people out here. At the final ceremony there will be a buffet for our VIPs, sponsors, contestants and people who will arrive early enough. African dishes are among the most traditional dishes in the world. It will be your first step into African culture before our African queens take to the stage.
"Mieliepap, boerewors en sous" maize porridge, sausage and sauce, a favourite with all South Africans
Tasty morsels: Authentic Eritrean starter meat sambusas from Mosob
This is fufu; it is common in West African countries. It's my favourite African dish. There are many types: Corn fufu, Cassava fufu, Yam fufu, Cocoyams fufu, Plantains fufu (shown in the pictures above), rice fufu, etc. Best eaten with stewed fish, meat, vegetables and okro. You can't afford to miss it!
A tajine or tagine (pronounced /tɑːˈʒiːn/; Arabic: طاجين, IPA: [tˁaːdʒiːn]) is the name of a type of North African dish (Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia) as well as the special pot in which they are cooked. The traditional tajine pot is formed entirely of a heavy clay which is sometimes painted or glazed. It consists of two parts; a base unit which is flat and circular with low sides, and a large cone or dome-shaped cover that rests inside the base during cooking. The cover is so designed to promote the return of all condensate to the bottom. With the cover removed, the base can be taken to the table for serving.
There will be dishes representing North, South, East and West Africa.
The buffet will be provided by RAS Ethiopian restaurant.
